On 27 April, 2007 citizens from Artyom (Primorskiy krai) gathered together to take part in a festival entitled “Many-sided Russia.”
NGO Raduga trainers Oleg Kaminskiy and Olga Popovich were the organizers of this event, which was the part of the project “Let’s Unite to Stop Violence,” implemented under the Path to Success! program. The innovative idea of attracting people’s attention to Russian culture and involving youth into the process of preparation for the event belongs to the town librarians. In February, the librarians took part in the seminar on “Introducing the Problem of Human Trafficking” conducted by Raduga, and pledged their help in working to prevent this significant problem. The librarians recruited teachers, students, and representatives of various vocal and dancing groups (in total over 50 people) to prepare creative presentations for the festival. Youth from the area poured their souls into preparing for this event. In cooperation with the town veteran council, the youth constructed a slide-show with war images, participated in a creative works contest, and created interesting presentations on Russian culture and the beauty of their region.
The festival was very interesting and successful in communicating to participants that Russia is rich in traditions, beautiful nature and wonderful people, and that it is important to preserve this wealth. That is why it is crucial for young people to stay, live and make careers in their Motherland instead of searching only for an easy and prosperous life abroad.
