Vladivostok Students Learn Techniques of Professional Consultation on Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Issues

Five students from Vladivostok educational establishments – future psychologists and social workers – obtained practical knowledge and skills in providing assistance to vulnerable people through the project implemented by the NGO Center of Prevention of Socially Significant Problems, under the Path to Success! Program. These future professionals united into the team “9-1-1” and began attending seminars conducted by a professor of pedagogy and psychology, member of the Russian branch of the International Association of Women Living in Asian Pacific Rim Countries.

On 26 April, 2007, the future professionals met to prepare for a 20-minute informational event on domestic violence issues. After getting instructions on how to effectively introduce the issue of domestic violence to youth and assist in solving problem situations, the students went to classes in the Euro-Asian lyceum and spoke on the problem of domestic violence and trafficking to their peers. They also gave individual consultations to students experiencing difficult situations in their families. The students-volunteers were able to successfully interest their peers and involve them in a heated discussion on these topics. Both sides benefit from such initiative; student volunteers get practice in their future professional work, and student beneficiaries have the opportunity to obtain help and support from their peers.
