NEWS AND EVENTS

Attracting public attention to domestic violence and discussing joint activities to confront the problem and its impact on youth were the goals of the April 25 conference in Partizansk, Primorskiy krai.

Lubov Smachinskaya, director of the youth organization Rostok, brought together representatives from the prosecutor’s office, the Education Department, the Social Department, orphanages, and other Primorskiy organizations. Rostok used interactive methods to effectively involve all the participants in the conference. For example, new and innovative strategies for conducting various activities for youth were demonstrated during the master classes, and were followed by small group work, where participants were urged to discuss what contributions they could make to reduce domestic violence cases in the region. Participants agreed that some of the most immediate actions should include psychological and financial help to families in need, lobbying government for the establishment of a crisis center, and consultations for people at-risk. The active participation of those in attendance supported the idea that there are a lot of people who are not indifferent to this socially significant problem.
