On 15-16 March, 2007, Svetlana Gritsenko, the director of Khabarovsk organization Social Psychological Center, conducted a training on domestic violence issues for social workers and psychologists.
These professionals encounter vulnerable women and children every day and are charged with helping them cope with tragedies and resume a normal life. At the training, the social workers and psychologists discussed the myths and realities of the problem and its negative consequences for children and women. Though they admitted that society does not seem to fully recognize the problem, a lot can be done right now to increase understanding. The professionals vowed to help combat the problem by becoming more attentive to those people who come to them with their problems, and to start lobbying for cooperative efforts of various state and non-commercial organizations which have to deal with such issues.
